On the 4th of September 2019, Sajid Javid took to the dispatch box to deliver a statement setting out government spending plans and departmental budgets for the financial year 2020-2021.

In the first major spending event of the Boris Johnson government, the new Chancellor of the Exchequer announced:

  • Day-to-day spending will be increased by over £13 billion next year.
  • That the fiscal framework will be renewed to "ensure it meets the economic priorities of today"
  • £2bn will be allocated to Brexit delivery
