Budget speculation and discussions around Brexit are set to dominate October, with the early budget set for the 29th October.
The Government is still to publish the third tranche of no-deal Brexit guidance, with a number of energy related technical notices expected in the next round, including on cross-border gas trading.
Debates surrounding fracking will likely make headlines in the energy sector this month as Cuadrilla begins fracking on its first site this month, following rumours of a potential Conservative backbench rebellion over Government proposals to fast track shale gas exploration.
This month may also see the report on Labour’s green energy commitments published, which will set out ‘decarbonisations pathways across the energy system’. The interim version was published earlier this month.
The Scottish Affairs Committee will hold an evidence session on the future of the oil and gas industry on Wednesday 10th October, whilst on the 16th Secretary of State Greg Clark and his ministers will face questions from MPs.
Finally, the much anticipated National Audit Office investigation into the £11bn smart meter programme is expected this month.
