What's on the agenda this month
by Philippa Keir, Health Policy Executive
As we enter March, the month that the UK is scheduled to leave the EU, it appears to be one filled with an abundance of legislation passing through both Houses at unprecedented speed.
We are expecting to see some very important Bills reach the remaining stages of the legislative process, with the Mental Capacity (Amendment) Bill currently in the consideration of amendments stage, and the Organ Donation (Deemed Consent) Bill expected to reach this stage any day now. The Healthcare (International Arrangements) Bill is also scheduled to have its report stage on 12th March, only 17 days ahead of the UK’s official Exit Day.
Alongside the fast processing of these Bills, a significant number of Statutory Instruments are also flooding through the legislative process this month. Fourteen health and social care SIs have been scheduled to be considered this week, with the purpose of instating the legislative foundations of the Withdrawal Agreement, which are still yet to be accepted by the House of Commons.
