What's on the agenda this month
by Andrew Huckle, Monitoring Consultant
As the summer recess approaches, the Government has promised that it will publish the highly anticipated “Road to zero” strategy by the time Parliament enters recess in mid-July.
A number of transport bills will receive Royal Assent including, Haulage Permits and Trailer Registration and Automated and Electric Vehicles. The Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill will extend compulsory motor vehicle insurance to cover the use of automated vehicles.
In other news, the consultation into the Vehicle Excise Duty for new vans will conclude towards the end of the month.
Following the publication of the Transport Select Committee’s report on rail infrastructure investment on June 28, it is possible that the Government will respond with a statement. This is especially the case in light of the current high politicisation of rail. In similar news, the Office of Rail and Road will publish in July its Train operating key statistics for 2017/2018.
